With bold, athletic and dramatic works, Carolyn Dorfman creates contemporary dance that moves you to think, feel, laugh and act. The evening features: Carolyn Dorfman Dance and the incomparable storyteller, narrator and librettist Charlotte Blake Alston in DANCE/STORIES, an enchanting interdisciplinary collaboration featuring a selection of folk tales and authentic stories from around the world. Interweaving thought-provoking choreography with the power of the spoken word, Dorfman magically turns to the Earth’s oldest art form – storytelling – into a moving tapestry that “bathes the senses and the soul.” The return of Dorfman’s acclaimed SEXTET. With a powerful and driving score by jazz composer Horacee Arnold, this dance explores the energy, rhythm and power of six dancers as they connect, divide and regroup. The world premiere of a new work by principal dancer Ae-Soon Kim. In her work for 5 dancers, Kim explores her roots and her life’s journey on three continents.
